Tha_rooster Posted June 6, 2003 Report Share Posted June 6, 2003 after having a kickass LAN at my place (not dissing any other LAN , RESPECT) I have decided to give all of you people who are not familiar with this concept a guide of how to set up one. 1. a space where the LAN can take place preferbly with a lot of powersockets 2. lots of friends or people who are crazy enough to drag a computer to your place 3. networking equipement, big switches, networking cables in case somebody forgets one and to connect switches if neccesary, maybe a server if you have a lot of people 4. food and drinks , very important nothing worse then no coke or other drink in a 10m radius to raise the amount of caffiene in your blood (Note lanning on an empty stomach can also be aggitating) 5. Software and updatesthe software that is going to be played should be availeble for reinstalling or for guys that dont have it at all (if your short on time installing beforehand might be neccessary) 6. A place to sleep for everybody if your going to sleep that is (note a place of a nice temprature is good dont want to freeze your balls off or be sweating like a pig) 7. have a guy that knows how to do networking all ahving the same operating system is definitely a plus for this (winXP is actually quite good for networking believe it or not) 8. an internet connection might be an idea in order to get patches or other stuff 9. watching a movie can bring a bit of nice variation(yes even lanning can sometimes get a bit tirering)(note a projector is kickass if you can get hold of one) 10. agree on games you are gonna play cause the goal of a LAN is multiplayer, not singleplayer, or everybody playing a different multiplayer game well there you go my first LANning guide , if you have any Lanning questions ill gladly anwser them.
