Tha_rooster
i'm slightly disapointed about the time of release of the athlon64 and opteron. Particularly because i'm planning to get my com in about 1 or 2 months time.
Tha_Rainman
It seems kind of logical. The reason they are releasing the Opetron i.e x86-64 chip for servers a.s.a.p is to break into the new market. It was intel that pushed x86 systems into the server arena and currently their solutions are limited to 32-bit. i.e Xeon systems. Their 64bit systems are wayy to expensive ala Itanium, Itanium2. So the Opetron will be the only reasonably priced 64bit processor for servers. They say they are delaying the desktop counterpart, the Athlon64 because of the more than expected demand for their barton cores: (2500+ 2800+ and 3000+). They are available here actually , quite pricey: $300, $600 and $1000 respectively. I guess I can survive till September
